Cremorne Digital Hub
The Victorian Government has committed to anchor the ongoing development of Cremorne as a global innovation and technology precinct with support to establish a flagship digital hub in Cremorne.
The purpose of the flagship Digital Hub is to drive Cremorne's development into a vibrant, world class centre for technology and innovation. It is envisaged that the Hub will deliver programs and activities aimed at lifting capability, stimulating tech adoption and problem solving, supporting business growth, attracting investment and creating jobs. It will also build connections with Victoria’s leading technology firms and institutes to businesses, researchers, and education providers across the state, nationally and globally, supported by complementary initiatives such as the recently announced Australian Sports Innovation Centre of Excellence.
The Hub is expected to lead a range of activities that address the following outcomes:
- Technology diffusion
- Digital investment
- Digital sector connectedness and transparency
- Talent and jobs
- Knowledge diffusion
- Global brand value
Expressions of Interest - now closed
In September 2021, the Department launched an Expressions of Interest (EOI) process to establish and operate the Cremorne Digital Hub. The EOI submissions period has now closed.
EOI proposals that were submitted to the Department by the 15November 2021 are currently being assessed against the response requirements and evaluation criteria.
Subject to the outcomes of the EOI process, a tender process is anticipated to commence in late 2021.
Cremorne is a vibrant and diverse inner-Melbourne suburb which continues to grow from its early 19th century roots as a bustling manufacturing centre, into a thriving precinct with 2,000 residents, 700 businesses and more than 10,000 workers.
Today this inner-Melbourne pocket nestled between Richmond and the Yarra River is a driving force behind Victoria’s tech and creative sector.
Cremorne contributes $4 billion to the Victorian economy each year and is home to four of Victoria’s tech companies that have attained billion-dollar valuations – which are headquartered in Cremorne: MYOB, REA Group, Carsales and SEEK.
The establishment of the Digital Hub will accelerate its development as a global innovation and technology precinct, a hub for creative and digital enterprises and startups, and a vibrant precinct in which to live and work.
Cremorne Place Implementation Plan
The Cremorne Digital Hub is part of the Cremorne Place Implementation Plan. The Plan was released in December 2020 and will guide the development of Cremorne as a global innovation and technology precinct.
