mRNA Victoria Research Acceleration Fund
Applications for the mRNA Victoria Research Acceleration Fund are now open.
Launched by mRNA Victoria as part of the Victorian Government’s $50 million investment to grow mRNA capability in the state, the Fund provides $2 million in grant support to accelerate RNA-based therapeutics research through the provision of one-off grants to successful applicants.
mRNA technology has created a new frontier for vaccine development and become a promising new weapon in the fight against cancer and other diseases. Developing mRNA capability in Victoria will provide vaccine security, support local manufacturing and create a more robust defence against future pandemics.
The Fund will be delivered in two tiers:
Tier 1: Early-stage research – Supporting innovative early-stage RNA-based therapeutics research that will deliver health and economic benefits to Victoria.
Tier 2: Research translation – Providing direct funding to fast-track the translation of RNA-based therapeutics research into manufacturing and clinical stages of development.
The Fund is designed to complement the existing Victorian Medical Research Acceleration Fund by providing a dedicated funding stream for RNA-based therapeutics projects.
Projects led by women, or that can show a 50/50 gender split in their research teams, will be prioritised to help address underrepresentation of women in health and medical research. Full details of this provision can be found in the Program Guidelines available below.
Please note, projects are only eligible to apply for one funding stream (either the mRNA Victoria Research Acceleration Fund or the Victorian Medical Research Acceleration Fund).
Applications will be open until 17 December 2021.
