By investing to improved broadband, the reach of services can be extended in regional areas where limited fixed line telecommunications infrastructure exists.
The Connecting Regional Communities Program (CRCP) will trial solutions to upgrade broadband infrastructure for regional businesses where demand is not met by existing telecommunications infrastructure. These solutions will require commercials co-investment and the potential to leverage the NBN and telecommunications providers.
The project is helping regional businesses have a greater ability to compete with metropolitan, interstate and international businesses. It is hoped that through the project, the regions will have greater ability to attract business investment and position regional areas for job growth.
A total of $7 million has been allocated for regional enhanced broadband projects in Morwell, North Geelong and Horsham (part of the $45 million allocated to CRCP).
A Request for Proposal (RFP) for the construction and delivery of enhanced broadband services was released to the market in April. Discover more about the Morwell project.
