Culture and collaboration
We promote a diverse and collaborative culture, and value our people.
Our values are vital to who we are and how we succeed. They are shared across the Victorian Public Sector and underpin how we work with our colleagues across government, our community, suppliers and each other.
Our values are:

White Ribbon Workplace accreditation
On 2 March 2018, the department received accreditation as a White Ribbon Workplace.
Accreditation recognises our role as a pioneer in contributing to the national cultural change to prevent and respond to violence against women and family violence, both inside and outside the workplace.

Our commitment as an employer
As an employer we treat all job applicants, employees and contractors on the basis of individual merit, rather than on irrelevant personal characteristics such as age, disability/impairment, marital status, physical appearance, race, religion or gender.
We employ people from many different backgrounds and benefit from the diverse range of perspectives and skills they bring to our department.
The department deals with all employment matters in accordance with the Victorian Public Sector (VPS) Employment Principles. Our selection panels abide by these principles when making decisions regarding selection and appointment to vacant positions.
We offer several employment programs including graduate programs, internships, student work placements and traineeships, such as the:
- VPS Graduate Program, including the Aboriginal Pathway Program
- Science Graduate Program
- Aboriginal Cadetship Program
- Aboriginal Work Experience Program.

Reward and recognition
We recognise the contributions and achievements of our people in many different ways. As well as providing yearly opportunities to advance in the organisation, we celebrate DJPR staff who have done that little bit extra through a program of annual awards.
